tango away

First stop, breath in the glory of Buenos Aires where you’ll find the cosmopolitan vibe of fashion, art and tango. This place is the next stop on the agenda and by the evening of your visit, you’ll be dancing the great steps yourself, alongside the city’s most eloquent dancers. There is no dance more romantic and intense than this, and some say few cities. By day you’ll be given the four balconies tour of a city so you can get under the skin of this great metropolis, from the balcony where Evita spoke to the masses, to the graveyard where graves are built as big as houses. Home will be the Casa Calma located in one of Buenos Aires best districts.

crossing to Uruguay

Hop aboard the ferry crossing to Colonia del Sacramento. Our local guide will pick you up at the other end and take you on a walking tour along the lovely cobbled streets of the old town. Spend a couple of nights at the Hotel Plaza Mayor where you’ll be treated like royalty. Soon enough you’ll be on your way to the capital Montevideo where you’ll tour the city and head down to the lively Port Market for a delicious lunch. Explore the cobbled streets of this old town, oozing colonial eccentricity and lively characters who are always welcoming. You’ll be staying at the Belmont Hotel as you get to know the city and surrounding area better. Head out of town for a tour of one of Uruguay’s best vineyards including a tasting and lunch.

seaside bliss

Next stop is Punta del Este, one of South America’s most stylish seaside retreats. This town is where the elite come to relax in the surroundings of luscious beaches and chilled colonial majesty, where every cobbled alleyway has a cosy cafe in which to pass the time. When spending time in the champagne swigging town of Punta del Este you need a hotel to match, so you’ll be staying at the Boutique La Bluette.

guachos

Continue on your journey through Uruguay at the Guardia del Monte, a sumptuously appointed working Estancia, where you’ll get up close to real life Gauchos who still live in a similar fashion to the traditional cowboys of the wild west. Immerse yourself in some rustic living as you go horseback through the soft undulating landscape spotting wildlife, trotting to lagoons, and the serene places that are truly worlds apart from the stresses of home. Come back to your Estancia lodge in the soft glow of sunset, feasting on the country-style food, where you can kick back in a hammock or at one of the many cosy fireplaces.

adventure and relaxation

We next whisk you to La Pedrera, Uruguay’s iconic seaside hideaways where you’ll kickback for a three-day dose of beach blissout. Transfer to the Valizas Village where our local guide will take you on a tour of Cabo Polonio village. Grab a boat trip along the Valizas stream visiting local villages before going on a 4×4 adventure along the sand dunes. The area is most known as a surfing paradise, with a constant blast of excellent sea swell. Even if you’re just coming for the view, you can’t fail to be wowed by the romantic plunge of waves and the rugged coastline. Explore quiet coves or mix with the locals in hidden cafes in one of the laziest towns in South America. Spend your last few days at the Pueblo Barrancas Eco Lodge before heading back home suitably refreshed.
