If you’ve never tried dulce de leche you are in for a real treat. The thick, milky caramel used in many deserts, pastries and alfajores is loved by both portenos and tourists alike. Many of the gelatos in the city sell dulce de leche ice cream which is divine.

For anyone with even the slightest interest in art, a visit to the MALBA: Colección Costantini is a must. Artists work on display including Diego Rivera, Tarsila do Amaral, Antonio Berni, Jorge de la Vega and Frida Kahlo.

Shop till you drop in San Telmo

The bric-a-brac and antique shops that line the Calle Defensa in San Telmo district make for a great day of bargain hunting. The area is best visited on a Sunday when the Feria de San Telmo market take over with a dazzling array of artisanal products and antiques.

Argentina is famous for its polo and matches can be seen in the Spring months of September, October and November. You can even try your hand at the sport at one of the many clubs.

Tour the Tigre Delta

Want to escape the city? Just outside the lush scenery and calm waterways of the Tigre Delta. Jump on board one of the many small boat cruises and while away a sunny afternoon away from the bustle of the city.

Don’t just go and see a tango show, visit a milonga and try the steps for yourself. Milongas are held in many venues across the city, most of which resemble something between a community hall and a ballroom. 

Gorge on medialunas

Argentina’s answer to the French croissant, medialunas are delicious and best eaten accompanied by freshly roasted coffee in one of the many coffee houses dotted around the city.

Pay your respects to Evita at Recoleta Cemetery

Although it sounds morbid, its actually fascinating. Recoleta Cemetery located in the exclusive district of the same name is most famous for being the burial ground of Eva Peron. Although Evita is the most famous person buried here, there are many poets, scientists, presidents and military leaders that also rest in the cemetery.
