Iberá Marshlands - Subtropical Paradise

This area, which until only a few years ago was practically unexplored, as made inaccessible by its waters, became a natural refuge for abundant and varied wildlife, including the largest rodent on earth, two species of caimans, the largest deer native to South America, howler monkeys and many of birds.

3 days/2 night

Day 1: Posadas - Iberá
Morning arrival in Posadas. Meeting at the airport and transfer to San Juan Poriahu, the comfortable and exclusive estancia in the heart of the Marshlands. It used to be a Jesuit property. San Juan Poriahu is located 170 km from Posadas (about two hour's drive). Exploration of the shores of the ponds, covered by aquatic vegetation and inhabited by capybaras, South American black caimans and spectacular waterfowl: jabiru storks, Southern screamers, wattled jacanas, bare-faced ibis, etc. Afternoon horse ride in the lowlands around the marshes. Nocturnal walk or navigation in the marsh (weather permitting), a very good opportunity to see wood foxes, local raccoons, the large cururu toad, the tropical screech owl and many other animals. (L,D)

Day 2: Iberá Marshes
Full day exploration of the fascinating marshes, navigating on a traditional boat, poled by local gauchos. Excellent opportunity to photograph the multicolored flowers of the aquatic plants and the varied fauna: black caimans; roseate spoonbills; maguari storks; whistling herons; anhigas; marsh eagles; painted turtles; etc. If we are lucky, we may see the rare marsh deer, in danger of extinction. Dinner at the ranch after enjoying the spectacular sunset. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Posadas
Transfer to the airport in Posadas or continue to the North to Iguazú Falls. (B)
