Iguazú Falls

The Mighty Iguazú Falls: The Subtropical Domain

The Iguazú National Park is located in the Northern tip of the Argentine Province of Misiones, across the border from Brasil. It extends over 220,000 acres and protects one of the natural areas of greatest biological diversity in the country: the Paranaense subtropical rain forest, a continuation of the Southern Brazilian Jungle. It has more than 2,100 known plant species, among which abound pindo palms, gigantic trees, arborescent ferns, orchids and large epiphytes such as the huge bromeliads knows as Caraguata (Aechmea caniculata), and tall canes (15 metres high).

3 days/2 nights

Day 1: Iguazú
Arrival in Puerto Iguazú, meeting at the airport and transfer (12 km) to the Sheraton Internacional Iguazú Hotel, located within the Iguazú National Park and with rooms overlooking the magnificent complex of falls. Afternoon visit of the Argentine side of the Iguazú Falls, hiking the Upper and Lower paths which run along the cliffs lining the falls (Argentine side). Iguazú Falls are not just one cascade but also a series of many beautiful cataracts, stretching for several miles along the river. These trails provide access to the forest and the falls and are wonderful place to view tropical birds, flowers and butterflies. (B)

Day 2: Iguazú
Morning at leisure. We suggest an optional morning visit the Brazilian side of the falls, which offers the best views over the complex of falls. This is the best time of the day to visit this side, as the sun shines over the falls. Return to the Argentine side. Free afternoon for further exploration of the National Park at your own leisure. The new infrastructure in the National park allows many activities and places to visit. (B)

It is fascinating to visit the ruins of their churches, towns and ranches, remembering the epic days as depicted in the movie "The Mission". Today, these ruins have been declared World Heritage Site.
