Argentina

Useful information

Currency

The official Argentine currency is the Argentine Peso. There are bills of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos, and coins of 1 peso and 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents. Most major towns have change facilities casas de cambio. If taking cash we recommend US dollars, but carrying credit cards is by far the easiest way of getting money. Visa and Mastercard seem to be the most widely accepted. However remote towns like El Chalten have no ATM’s.

Visas

At present, British nationals do not need a tourist visa to enter Argentina. You may stay for up to 90 days with a valid passport and a return ticket. If needed, the duration of the stay can be renewed in Argentina for another 90 days.

British citizens can find up-to-date travel advice on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website. Citizens of other countries should consult their local Argentinian consulate.
