Terrantai Desert Lodge

A Traditional Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama

The lodge is situated in the heart of the village of San Pedro de Atacama next to the village church, just steps from the crafts market and close to restaurants and shops.

Terrantai was built with materials taken from earth of the surrounding desert. Techniques developed thousands of years ago were used, with local elders teaching young architects new skills. The stone used in Terrantai is of a beauty that is awe-inspiring. The walls consist of individually selected stones placed with care and adobe prepared under the hot September sun. The roof was preserved from the original house. Visitors will find relaxation in the space, stone alleyways, patios, terraces, restaurant and beautiful rooms.

The food, from the buffet breakfast with fresh fruit, natural juices, home-made bread and pastries, to meals of traditional Andean fare, prepared with local ingredients like quinoa, maize and fresh vegetables, will give you a feeling of well being. Wines especially selected from world-renowned Chilean vineyards will be offered to accompany meals. While most guests prefer traditional offerings, more familiar alternatives are also available.

Terrantai Lodge offers peace and tranquillity. You will be free to enjoy a good book from library, sitting in the shade of the garden, or perhaps have a stimulating conversation in the refreshing shade of trees in the summer, or by an open fire in the winter. Trips and excursions are offered to the surrounding desert, oases, salt flats, flamingos, lakes, volcanoes, to the El Tatio Geysers and the magical Valley of the Moon. All are accompanied by bilingual guides who know the desert well, from years of personal experience and study.

For operational reasons, excursions are arranged on arrival. They will enable passengers to experience main sights such as the Moon Valley, Tatio, Salt Lake, Archaeological and Walking Tour, in 3 or 4 days. For passengers staying 5 days or longer, additional excursions will be arranged exclusively for them. If leaving on afternoon flights, a visit to the village handcraft shops or time at the pool are recommended, prior to their transfer to the airport.
