Napo Wildlife Centre
Location
Napo Lodge is located deep in the Ecuadorian rainforest, approximately 40 minutes south east from Quito by scheduled plane plus canoe from Coca (Francisco de Orellana) airport.
After a short drive to the river dock, we embark on a large motorized canoe for a 2½ hour journey, which is an experience in itself, as the verdant jungle changes like a moving backdrop and the canoe driver dodges sandbanks and logs. Then we switch to an equally exciting 1 hour paddle canoe ride up a narrow creek, with kingfishers darting and the chance of seeing a river dolphin, giant otter or monkeys along the way. We eat lunch en route and arrive at the lodge by late afternoon. At places the tall trees from each bank seem to touch overhead (no motorized transport is allowed on the creek or lake so wildlife isn't disturbed).
The Napo Wildlife Centre is on the shores of the tannin-rich black-water Añangucocha Lake, within territory of the Añangu Quichua Community. The community has built a first class lodge in Ecuador’s Amazon with ecological principles without sacrificing comfort. It is the only lodge within the Yasuni National Park.
