Where to stay
Andes cloud forest lodges
The steep-sided slopes of the Andes have their own unique ecosystem. The dense moisture-laden forest is home to hundreds
of colourful birds such as the Cock-of-the-Rock and Plate-billed Mountain Toucan, and unique plants such as orchids. The
best way to experience this natural habitat is staying at one of the following eco-lodges:
Bellavista Reserve
A rustic lodge set with a 700 hectare natural reserve with fantastic views of the Andes. Accommodation is available either
within a unique thatched wood and glass dome or secluded cabins. An ideal location for exploring the cloud-forest;
activities include guided walks, birdwatching, and horse-riding.
Please enquire for prices.
Maquipicuna Reserve
A 4,500 hectare privately owned and managed nature reserve, surrounded by 14,000 hectares of "protected forest". 2 hours' 4x4 drive from Quito.
Please enquire for prices.
El Monte Private Reserve
A secluded eco-lodge near Mindo, 2 hours' drive from Quito, with a variety of activities and walks to nearby forest.
