The Mayans forged a powerful and mysterious empire across southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize and we visit several of their magnificent jungle-cloaked temples, cities and pyramids on this fascinating trip. Their legacy is also apparent in the customs, language and dress of the Indian towns and villages we pass through on our journey. As well as exploring the Mayan world, we discover lively colonial towns, active volcanoes, palm-fringed Caribbean beaches and the stunning Lake Atitlan.

This is a fascinating, varied and comfortable trip with excellent accommodation throughout and private overland transport. The hotels used are of our Premium Adventure brand in terms of standards, except for the jungle lodge at Palenque which was selected for its great location.

Day 1: Start Antigua.
Day 2: Morning tour of the beautiful colonial city.
Day 3: Free day by the lake or optional boat trip.
Day 4: Drive into Mexico; to San Cristobal de las Casas.
Day 5: Explore the colourful city.
Day 6: Visit Agua Azul Waterfalls; to Palenque.
Day 7: Tour of Mayan pyramids and temples.
Day 8: Drive via impressive Mayan ruins of Uxmal.
Day 9: Visit Mexico's most famous Mayan site at Chichen Itza.
Day 10: Visit Tulum ruins.
Day 11: Drive to Belize City then ferry to Caye Caulker.
Day 12: Free day for relaxation or optional activities.
Day 13: Fly to Belize City; drive to Flores in Guatemala.
Day 14: Visit impressive Tikal Mayan site.
Day 15: End Guatemala City.
Day 16: Arrive London.
