Itinerary
Day 1: Mexico City
Arrival and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Mexico City
City tour - Guadalupe Shrine - Teotihuacan Pyramids.
Morning visit to the main streets and avenues of Mexico City. Visit to the "Zocalo" (Main Square) and the National Palace in which you will admire the magnificent frescoes of Diego Rivera (closed on Sundays). These frescoes narrate with images the most important events of our history during three centuries. See also the ruins of the Aztecs Main Temple, as well as the Cathedral. Afterwards make a stop at a handicrafts centre. On to Chapultepec Park, and its surrounding residential area, containing the homes of famous artists. In the afternoon, on the way to the Sanctuary of Guadalupe there is a short stop by the "Plaza de las Tres Culturas" (Three Cultures Square), where you will appreciate different periods in Mexico's history represented by three different kinds of buildings: an archaeological site, a catholic church and the modern building of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Continue the tour to the Shrine of Guadalupe, housing the original image of the Virgin which appeared on the cloak that belonged to the indian Juan Diego. You will see both shrines, the one built in the 18th century and the one devoted to the Virgin that was built almost three decades ago. Through a modern highway continue to reach the site of Teotihuacan "Where men become gods". During this tour you will have time and opportunity to climb the amazing Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, as well as to visit other buildings such as the Palace named Quetzal-Papálotl (Quetzal-Butterfly), the Quetzalcóatl (Feather-Snake) Temple, the Avenue of the Dead and The Citadel. Day 3: Mexico City
Day at leisure.
Day 4: Mexico City - Patzcuaro
Departure to Morelia. City tour.
Visit to the Governor's Palace which was originally a Tridentine seminary. It opened in 1770 and housed seven hundred seminarists in its history. After the Independence War the building was used as military headquarters. Also visit the Clavijero Palace, the Arms Square and the Aqueduct that was built in the 18th century to supply the city of Valladolid, (former name of Morelia) with water. Other attractions are the Fountain of the Tarascan women and the Church of Gualupita built in the 18th century with Churrigueresco style. Visit to a sweet factory. Afterwards, continue to Patzcuaro. (aprox. 10 hrs)
Day 5: Patzcuaro - Guadalajara
City tour - Departure to Guadalajara
Morning visit to the city of Patzcuaro, former capital of the Purepechan kingdom. This city, built in 1534 has a very special colonial taste, quite different to that of other cities. We will see the Church for our Lady of Health, the House of the 11 Patios, the Gertrudis Bocanegra Library with its mural paintings by Juan O´Gorman; the Vasco de Quiroga Square and its typical market. Visit to Santa Clara del Cobre and Tzintzuntzan. Continue to Guadalajara. Transfer to the hotel. (aprox. 08 hrs)
Day 6: Guadalajara
City tour - Tequila Town
City tour including: The Cathedral, the Governor's Palace, Degollado Theatre and Cabañas Hospice among other Interesting Sites. (aprox. 03 hrs) Visit to Tequila town.
Day 7: Guadalajara - Guanajuato
Tlaquepaque - Departure to Guanajuato
Visit to Tlaquepaque. Lunch included. Departure to Guanajuato. Transfer to the hotel. (aprox. 06 hrs)
Day 8: Guanajuato - San Miguel Allende
City tour - Departure to San Miguel Allende
Morning City tour of Guanajuato: Discover its subterranean streets and alleys; its old buildings filled with history, and its small typical squares which serve as stage for different performances during the Cervantino Festival in October. Visit the Alhondiga, the Municipal Market, the Juarez Theatre, the University, the Main Square; the "Valenciana" mine and the famous "Kiss Alley". Departure to San Miguel de Allende. Arrival in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel.
Day 9: San Miguel Allende - Queretaro - Mexico City
City tour - Departure to Queretaro - City tour - departure to Mexico City
Morning City tour of San Miguel de Allende. Allende Institute of Art and Culture. Royal Convent of the Conception, Church for Saint Michael Archangel and the Handicrafts Market. Continue on to Queretaro. City tour. the "Corregidora" House, the Marchioness House, the Santa Clara Convent, the "Republica" Theatre, the Aqueduct. Afternoon, transfer to Mexico City. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. (approx. 0800 hrs)
Day 10: Mexico City
Transfer to the airport for your international departure.
