Most people who visit Colca Lodge will be accompanied by their own guide and driver and will explore traditional Colca villages and visit the Cruz del Condor. For those with some free time the lodge offers activities (for an additional charge) including mountain biking, horse riding and trout fishing. There are also a number of interesting walks in the area surrounding the lodge, including trails to the Uyo Uyo ruins and the ‘Amphitheatre’ where the pre-Incas used to prepare seeds to be stored at the ‘Colcas.’
For the most adventurous visitors, trekking routes which may include the two or three day Canyon’s exploration; the descent from the base of Sabancaya volcano ( 19,607 ft ) to the Valley floor or the excursion to the source of the Amazon River. White-water rafting is also an optional excursion.
Those interested in the history and sociological aspects of the region can organize their visit around the area’s abundant Pre-Inca ruins or to the 16 surrouding villages of Spanish origin, each one with a splendid colonial church.
