Arenal

Watching the smoky, active volcano of Arenal.

Whilst in the northern highlands don’t miss Arenal volcano, rising out of the rainforest, frequently erupting red hot lava. Many of the lodges and hotels that we use are positioned to get the best views of the volcano. Enjoy a delicious evening meal as you watch the glowing lava tumble down with a shower of natural fireworks.

By day our guides can take you on walks around the volcano and the nearby hiking trails to see the volcano closer and from different views over old lava flows.

Enjoy bathing in the natural thermal springs dotted nearby. Hazy mist falls over the mineral pools in the evening and is the perfect way to end a day of exploration. There are also a number of spas offering a variety of treatments and massages for those who wish to indulge.

If you stay in the area for a few days we can organise a boat trip to the Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve near the border of Nicaragua and home to variety of monkeys, sloths and caimans.

Arenal is great in combination with the Monteverde Cloud Forest with an excursion across Lake Arenal on the way.
