The procession is rooted in Andalusian tradition and was brought over by Spanish missionaries in the 16th Century. The entire city takes part in the event, accompanied by thousands of travelers coming to experience the energy of Holy Week.

Orca feeding frenzy

Young sea lions start to venture into the Atlantic around Penisula Valdes in March and unfortunately for them Orcas are well aware of this fact. It is a spectacular sight to watch as at high tide they throw their powerful bodies on the beach to grab a tasty young morsel. Orca watching is best at Punta Norte, on the north side of the peninsula however driving between viewing spots gives plenty of opportunity to spot land based wildlife like guanacos, rheas and the odd puma.
