NICARAGUA HOLIDAYS

The country of volcanoes and lakes… and more

We are proud to offer Nicaragua as our latest up-and-coming destination. A land of bubbling lava and unspoilt forests and beaches that will not disappoint. The biggest country of Central America and the safest. The people you meet here are friendly and willing to help you with anything. When you ask a local a question and they do not know the answer immediately, they will not give up. If a taxi driver does not know where you are going to, he will ask several others to help him make sure you end up in the right place.

Nicaragua has beautiful natural lakes, mountains and forests, all within easy reach of the capital Managua. While walking through the dense jungle or climbing the volcanoes, wildlife is ever present. The country is an important route for migrating colourful tropical birds. If you are lucky spot the quetzal. Take a picnic on a beach, but keep an eye out for monkeys howling in the trees.

Leaving Managua behind there are the colonial gems of Granada and Leon. Both cities have crumbling Spanish architecture that retain an old-world charm. Leon to the north is a place to sample culture with galleries, museums and nightlife. It also boasts the biggest Cathedral in Central America. If you are an adrenalin junkie try the ‘volcano boarding’ on nearby Cerro Negro volcano.

To the south is charming Granada, which has plenty to see nearby. Mombacho Volcano for adventurous activities like hiking, canopy tours or mountain biking. Lake Nicaragua is huge and you can take a trip by boat to Ometepe island to chill out. The active Masaya Volcano has a lake of steaming orange lava that colours the sky blood red.

The idyllic Corn Islands are well worth the short flight east. A paradise for snorkelling or diving among spectacular coral reefs and tropical fish. The islanders are the most hospitable people you could meet.

Nicaragua caters for quiet relaxation to raising heartbeats playing Tarzan zip-lining. From the beautiful colonial cities to surfing the waves of the pacific. Nicaragua has much to discover without the crowds of some of its neighbours. Nicaragua is a land full of adventure, nature and authentic people.

When to go:

Nicaragua can be visited during all year round due to its tropical weather, however the best times are during the dry season, between November and May.
