Placencia & Toledo

Placencia is located in the south of the country and is home to white sand beaches, pristine mangrove-fringed lagoons and myriad islands and nearby jungles.

Spend your days relaxing on the beach or experiencing the many activities on offer. You can jump on one of the boat trips out to Placencia Lagoon where you can spot manatees who play in the shallow waters. Our guides can take you out to some amazing diving and snorkelling spots where it’s possible to swim with the giant whale sharks which visit during April and May.

We highly recommend a visit to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary offering a varied landscape of lush jungle, bubbling streams and waterfalls which is home to a wide variety of birds, deer, tapirs and if you’re lucky (and arrive early) even pumas, ocelots and the elusive jaguar.

In the evening head out to one of the interesting local restaurants and watering holes that feature local Belizean food, culture and live music.

Continue south and you’ll find the Toledo district, an incredible part of the country that’s well off the beaten track and not often visited. Explore primary rainforest and Mayan sites including Lubaantun and Nil Li Punit.

A mix of wildlife, Mayan sites and laid-back Belizean culture
