San José & The Central Valley

A city which grows on you surrounded by rolling countryside.

San José is the dynamic capital city and main gateway to Costa Rica. The city also offers the ideal base for exploring the charming towns and valleys nearby. San José is the sort of place that grows on you. Take the time to wander and watch locals going about their business. The Gold Museum is worth a look, and the Inbio Park gives a good introduction to the country’s natural wonders.

Our local guides can show you how some of the world’s best coffee is produced, seeing the process of cultivation, roasting and of course trying the finished product. The smell of freshly roasted and ground coffee is fantastic.

Venture a few hours outside the city into the Central Valley and you can see one of the three well-known volcanoes and national parks of Irazú, Turrialba and Poás. We would highly recommend some treks around the national park and to the summit of the volcanoes. We can arrange activities such as; white water rafting, rain and cloud forest hiking, mountain biking, trips to butterfly farms and botanical gardens and much more.

Near Poás volcano you should not miss the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, with its butterflies, frogs, hummingbirds and orchids.

A fantastic beginning to any Costa Rican holiday
