The rainforests of Belize

After arriving at Belize City you’ll head straight out to Mountain Pine Ridge, an area that covers the Mayan mountains, abundant with lush woods, orchids and butterflies. Spend the next few nights at the wonderfully rustic Pook’s Hill Lodge.

During the next few days you’ll explore the region in many different ways. First up is the lost Mayan city of Caracol, at which you can discover the famous Sky Pyramid that climbs 138-ft above the site. Take a dip in the fascinating network of secret caves and pools of Rio Frio, or you can kayak across the fascinating labyrinth of natural tunnels at Barton Creek.

There are few richer experiences of early morning bliss than a rainforest, and here in the heart of the Belize jungle you’ll awaken to the serenity of mellow mists and the sounds of bird calls. One of the best ways to experience it is to weave through the gallery of trees on horseback, before feasting on a breakfast of exotic fruits.

Alternatively you can trek through the green richness, before heading through caves that open on to ancient Mayan ruins. You’ll see a natural world that forges a backdrop of utter bliss, the most iconic area in the region is known as the Hummingbird Highway, a landscape of palms and citrus trees.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal, a must for any visit to this fascinating region.

To Punta Gorda

Next up you’ll board a scenic flight to Punta Gorda and transfer to The Lodge at Big Falls where you will spend the next few days.

Here you’ll be treated to a number of exciting excursions. Visit Lubaantun, a Mayan site that is home to the Crystal Skull, a late classic site with highly unique architectural features. Take a visit to the Rio Blanco National Park – a wonderfully deep bathing pool set beneath a waterfall. Kayak along the Rio Grande from the village of San Miguel all the way back to the lodge observing an area teeming with wildlife.

Kickback on a boat trip down the Rio Grande to Port Honduras and see the majestic underwater riches of manatees, turtles and coral unfold before your eyes. There’s a chance to decamp on small islets from which you can delve even further underwater by snorkelling.

Island life

Lastly we’ll take you from one island paradise to the other as we fly to you to the beach beauty of Ambergis Caye, a haven for sandy coves and seaside living. The place oozes history, being an outpost for the Mayan and European Pirates alike, and brims with thatched-roof villages and fishing boats.

The next few nights will be spent at the Victoria House. Here you’ll have a multitude of activities from snorkelling through exquisite reefs to feasting on the daily fresh fish catches. To ramp up the adrenalin we’ll take you snorkelling in the local Marine Reserve, and a swimming trip through Shark Ray Alley, where you can get up-close and personal with sharks, sting rays and some of the most formidable creatures in the ocean. That’s if you dare.
