LAKE TITICACA

The highest navigable lake in the world.

No holiday to Bolivia would be complete without seeing the highest navigable lake in the world. The beautiful cobalt blue waters of Lake Titicaca with reflections of snow-capped mountains and ever-changing colours are a memorable sight.

We recommend a stop at the delightful town of Copacabana, where life goes on as centuries before, it is a place of pilgrimage to a miraculous virgin. The town is a good base for hiking into the hills or getting a blessing from the miraculous Virgin of the Lake. On Sunday the whole town comes alive with pilgrims and drivers having their cars blessed.

Take a boat to the Island of the Sun; legend has it as the birthplace of the Incas. We can arrange stays on the island for those who wish to unwind or explore the ruins.

For those active travellers we suggest Sorata, a charming town where some of Bolivia’s most spectacular treks begin. If you really wish to get away from it all, head even further north to the remote and beautiful mountains of the Cordillera Aplobamba, where vicuñas graze against a backdrop of spectacular peaks.

Closer to the lake is Tiahuanaco, an impressive pre-Inca archaeological complex.

Unforgettable vistas and cobalt blue skies
