Monteverde

Wind your way up the bumpy roads to Monteverde

Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica is a magical place set among misty volcanic slopes, on the edge of the Tilaran Mountains, dripping with dense green foliage and home to a huge variety of flora and fauna. Monteverde is one of the first natural reserves and has become a model of sustainable development. In the cloud forest you can encounter some of the many mammals including monkeys and tapirs and there’s also a chance of seeing some of the six endangered cats found in Costa Rica – jaguars, jaguarondis, ocelots, tigrillos, margays and pumas.

Monteverde is a bird-watchers paradise with over 400 species of bird including the national bird, the resplendent quetzal as well as some unique birds with fantastic names like the three-wattles bellbird and bar-necked umbrella bird.

You can also marvel at some 500 species of butterfly, 6,000 species of insect and 2,500 species of plants.

If feeling active, fly through the treetops on a zip-line, or a travel a little more gently and walk on canopy walkways (suspension bridges) or even more lazily on aerial trams. We can organize guided hikes with naturalist guides or horse riding to get to know the area better.

This region is also perfect to combine with a visit to the Arenal volcano, you can take a boat trip across Lake Arenal to travel between the two areas.
