Lake Titicaca

The highest navigable lake in the world.

The deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca are sandwiched between Peru and Bolivia, at over 2 miles above sea level.

We recommend a visit to one of the islands like Taquile or Amantani, where we can arrange stays with local families:  it is like stepping back several centuries in time.

Closer to Puno are the unique floating reed islands of the Uros where people live and work on what feels like a giant waterbed. They still make traditional totora reed boats and our guides will fix a chance for you to paddle one of these ancient crafts.

A British built steam ship Yavari has recently been restored as a tourist attraction and offers bed and breakfast. From Cuzco you can reach Puno aboard the Andean Explorer, a train through the snow-capped Andes operated by Orient Express. Allow us to book your passage on this scenic day journey.

For those who want exclusivity we can arrange a stay on a private island of Suasi Island where you can be spoilt by the staff of the boutique hotel or take a kayak out onto this magical lake and fish for trout.

If you wish to continue your journey from Lake Titicaca, you may also cross the lake by catamaran or hydrofoil and travel on further into Bolivia towards La Paz.
