brazil

Brazil is huge - from the Equator to beyond the Tropic of Capricorn - known for Carnival in Rio, Samba music, dance and football par excellence.

A Brazil holiday offers much more than these clichés: thousands of miles of unspoilt tropical beach, the bulk of the Amazon rainforest, the Pantanal the world's largest wetland, table-topped mountains with unique plants and waterfalls, colonial mining towns resplendent with baroque churches, the huge metropolis of Sâo Paulo and the seductive charm of Rio.

Most of all there are the Brazilians. The Portuguese left a lasting colonial heritage, the African legacy is strong and now there is a melting pot with later waves of European and Japanese immigrants. All this is reflected in the rich cultural heritage of architecture, cuisine music and sport.

Brazil will host the Football World Cup of 2014 and Olympics of 2016, meaning that this wonderful country will be discovered by many more visitors in the not too distant future. So now is an excellent time to take a cultural, wildlife, bird-watching, adventure or relaxing beach holiday.

A holiday in Brazil really does offer something for everyone. Brazil makes an excellent destination for culture-vultures, wildlife enthusiasts or just beach relaxation; there are some beautiful coastal locations for honeymooners.

There are great hotels in Sâo Paulo and Rio and chic private beach villas near Angra, Paraty and Bahia; simple `pousadas `, in the interior and real working ranches or` fazendas` in  Chapada Diamantina and Pantanal.

We recommend the smaller boutique guest houses with local character. In the Amazon we favour smaller lodges, in order to get close to primary forest – or small cruises boats, we can even charter private river boats.

Brazil’s size and variety make it difficult to get right without insider knowledge and our destination experts will guide you as to how much is manageable and exactly what to expect from the extraordinary variety of alternatives. But 'wow' is it fantastic when we get the balance perfect...

Brazil visitors with an energy and a rhythm all of its own!

When to go:

Most of Brazil is tropical, you can go all year round! Exceptions are the south which can be cool July to September (but this is when whales can be seen). Generally it is wettest December to March. The Pantanal is best seen in the dry season, July to October. Christmas and Carnival times need to be booked a long time ahead.

All our tailor made Brazil holidays are individually designed, but as a guide we can arrange a 12 day itinerary (excluding international flights) from £2,600.
