Florianópolis & The South

Brazil with a very European flavor

The south is responsible for Brazil’s finest wines and the country’s best beef:  this is an area full of surprises.  This is the only region in Brazil where temperate seasons are clearly defined. The influx of Europeans has influenced the area heavily. Jesuit missions built along Guarani settlements and Bavarian-style towns like Blumenau can be seen. Curitiba is a well-planned modern city that is an ideal base for exploring the coast and the surrounding mountains.

We can arrange bespoke tours to any part of the region but some of our favourites are trips to the Itaimbezinho Canyon and the picturesque railway journey between Curitiba and Paranagua.

No visit to the area is complete without a visit to the town of Florianópolis or ‘Floripa’ as it is affectionately known, this is an island joined to the mainland by two bridges, with the cobbled streets, colonial architecture, museums and a cathedral. Magnificent beaches run all the way up the coast, many of which are completely deserted.

During the months of July and October we can arrange whale-watching adventures from the region.
