Policy Aims

We have been creating memorable travel experiences for almost 30 years. It makes absolute sense that we look after the places we visit, not only for the future of our business and clients, but for the people and places that make Latin America such an incredible part of the world. Put simply, responsible travel is something we take very seriously.

Economic Responsibilty

We have worked alongside and contributed to organisations that make great differences to communities and conservation all over South and Central America. We have been members of LATA (Latin America Travel Association) for over 20 years, actively participating in as part of the executive committee and supporting their LATA Foundation which supports social projects throughout the region. These projects are helping to transform lives, providing clean water, dental or medical support and practical training to provide people with new skills in Mexico, Central and South America.

Environmental Policy

The Galapagos has always been at the core of what we do. Our founder, David Horwell, has written for a number of publications, is author of books about and worked as a guide in the Galapagos. He therefore understands the complexity of conservation and tourism on the archipelago. We solely work with boats who use local guides and crew which in turn supports the community who inhabit the islands. We only work with vessels which have strict policies on social & environmental responsibility, locally owned and operated and are actively reducing carbon emissions and where possible, preferably have Smart Voyager certification. We are proud to have been one of the first members of the Galapagos Conservation Trust, a UK charity who work tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for the conservation of this fragile ecosystem. We have sponsored their events, helped with logistics for their team, and contributed financially by donating GCT memberships to our customers.

Social Responsibility

Where possible we work with locals. We pick our guides carefully and we think that someone who’s born and bred in the area is better equipped to impart local knowledge and give you an authentic experience. It also ensures less migration to larger cities allowing small areas to prosper economically. All of our trekking outfitters have a responsible porter policy which we check annually.
