The Trip
Day 1: Punta Arenas – Enjoy an afternoon briefing on the islands and meet other guests
Day 2: South Shetlands – Fly to King George Islands and explore the area
Day 3 – 8: Antarctic – Explore the rich wildlife and scenery of the Antarctic
Day 9: Punta Arenas – Fly back to Punta Arenas and overnight
Day 10: Punta Arenas – Transfer to the airport
Day 1
When you arrive in Punta Arenas in Chile you will be met and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon you can enjoy a lecture and briefing about the voyage, the scenery and the wildlife that you can expect to see. Later you can join the other guests for a welcome dinner enjoying a typical regional Patagonian meal.
Day 2
This morning you adventure begins with a two hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Islands, part of the South Shetlands archipelago. When you arrive you will explore the surrounding area including the Chilean Frei Station and the Russian base Bellingshausen. Afterwards board zodiacs to head out to the Antarctic vessel, your home for the next few days.
Day 3 – 8
Other the next six days you will cruise between the South Shetlands Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula in search of the some of the best scenery and wildlife the region offers. Sail along fjords filled with ice, spot spectacular icebergs, see varied sea birds, whales, penguins and seals. Weather permitting you will take zodiacs each day to explore the landscape with expert polar guides. During the cruise there is an exciting program of on board lectures and presentations to help you make the most of the expedition.
Please note that there must be some flexibility with Antarctic cruises. The weather will determine exact locations you will visit, so an exact itinerary is impossible to create. However, you are likely to visit Hope Bay, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Paulet Island, Deception Island and the Lemaire Channel amongst many others.
Day 9
Today you will arrive back on King George Island and take your flight back to Punta Arenas. When you arrive you will be transferred to the hotel for the night. Please note that the evening meal is not provided in Punta Arenas but there are plenty of good places to try.
Day 10
Today is free to explore. You will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
