The M/V Hondius is the first Polar Class 6 vessel, ideal for exploration of the Antarctic. Accommodating 170 passengers, in a total of 80 cabins, Hondius is a new vessel (built 2019), exceeding the green requirements of the Polar Code.
The M/V Hondius uses LED lighting, steam heating, bio-degradable paints and lubricants, and state-of-the-art power management systems that keep fuel consumption and CO2 levels minimal. This means that when you sail aboard Hondius, you get to enjoy the landscapes and wildlife with minimum impact. Hondius is also equipped with stabilizers that make her highly suitable for swift, safe, and nimble exploration of polar waters.
The ship has a high standard of accommodation and a strong focus on an outdoor adventure. Hondius offers comfortable accommodation for 170 passengers in six grand suites with balconies, eight junior suites, eight superior cabins, 11 twin deluxe cabins, 14 twin window cabins, 27 twin porthole cabins, two triple porthole cabins, and four quadruple porthole cabins. Cabins are very modern and comfortable with plenty of space.
Onboard you will find public spaces including a large observation lounge and separate lecture room, which are reserved for a wide variety of interactive workshops, exhibitions, and performances particular to Hondius. Though elegantly designed in stylish mid-century modern décor, this vessel holds true to Oceanwide’s distinctive cosy and informal atmosphere.
The main focus is always exploration, wildlife, and outdoor activities. For this reason, Hondius carries a powerful fleet of Zodiac boats to guarantee swift and safe transit from ship to shore. She also has two separate gangways for efficient outings as well as an indoor Zodiac boarding area that can also be used for special outdoor activities such as kayaking.
While cruising, Hondius carries 72 crew and staff members, including expedition and hotel staff, all will be at your service. Hondius is equipped with two main engines and can reach maximum speed of 15knots.
The activity programme includes options like camping, mountaineering, zodiac cruises, scuba diving and photography.
