The Trip
Day 1: Ushuaia – Board the Antarctic vessel
Day 2: Ushuaia – Set sail along the Beagle Channel
Day 3-4: Drake Passage: Cross the Drake Passage and enjoy on board lectures
Day 5-8: Antarctic: Explore the South Shetlands and Antarctic Peninsula
Day 9-10: Drake Passage: Cross back over the Drake Passage
Day 11: Ushuaia: Arrive back in Ushuaia
Day 1
Arrive in Ushuaia, the most southerly town in the world. Spend some time exploring the Tierra del Fuego National Park and if you wish visit some of the excellent restaurants in town.
Day 2
Today you will depart in the afternoon, setting sail along the Beagle Channel which transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago.
Day 3
The next couple of days will be spent crossing the Drake Passage. There will be a series of on board lectures and presentations by Antarctic experts to help you learn about the geology and wildlife of the white continent. Up on deck you will have the opportunity to see many sea birds that follow the wake of the boat.
Day 5-8
As you cross past the Antarctic Convergence the true expedition begins. You will have your first sighting of a towering iceberg that gently glides past the boat. Over the next four days you will explore the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
You will take zodiac excursions from the ship to explore the bays, channels and make landings. As this is a wildlife focused expedition you will visit areas that have penguin rookeries, scout for humpback and Minke whales and look for seals including the cunning leopard seal.
When you make your first landing on the white continent you will climb up some of the snowy hills to get spectacular 360° views over the surroundings. From Orne Harbour you can see a huge chinstrap penguin colony. If you’re feeling brave why not take part in the Polar Plunge swim.
A full itinerary is impossible as it depends on weather conditions at the time. Whichever regions you will see much wildlife and incredible scenery.
Day 9-10
Leave the Antarctic behind and cross back over the Drake Passage. Spend time with your fellow guests sharing stories of the things you’ve seen. Go back on deck to watch for wildlife and attend lectures and presentations given by Polar experts.
Day 11
Arrive back in Ushuaia and disembark.
