Darwin’s Birds

Plates from the Zoology of the Voyage of HMS Beagle (1832 – 1836). These are illustrations by John Gould published in London in 1842. I was lucky enough to be able to examine this incredible publication in the library of the Royal Geographical Society. The illustrations were based on the collection of wildlife specimens that the naturalist Charles Darwin brought back to London.
