Colonial Antigua and coffee farm
Coming into Antigua is like entering a different era. This Latin city feels like it’s been too busy being content to worry about keeping pace with modern day life. Antigua is one of the most idyllic destinations in the world, boasting Spanish colonial architecture, pristine parks, sensational food and a horizon framed by its spectacular volcanoes.
Roam through the cobblestone streets with our local guide to find fascinating museums brimming with local woodcrafts. You’ll also make a visit to a fair trade coffee farm to learn about the process of coffee production. You’ll be staying at the wonderfully luxurious El Convento during your stay.
Bygone times
Step-back to a bygone time as you visit the shimmering glory of Lake Atitlan, blessed by mountain Mayan villages where locals still wear their traditional dresses. The next few nights you will be staying at the Hotel Atitlan.
The lake is a natural wonder, 50 square miles of deep, crystal blue water, formed by volcanic disruption 100,000 years ago, the lake shimmers in a mountain valley. During your stay you’ll visit the colourful Comalapa market and the Mayan site of Iximche. Glide across its tranquil waters and pass local fisherman, Mayans, and stopping off for a visit to the local markets of the stunning backdrop in Santiago Atitlan.
On the way back to Guatemala city you’ll visit Chichicastenango, well known for its unusual mixture of the Catholic and Maya religions. Maya priests make pilgrimages from distant villages to hold ceremonies and make offerings to their gods, and all inside the Catholic church. Our guides will take you deep to the heart of this mystical tradition.
Mayan ruins
Jet off to Flores and Tikal, brimming with ancient ruins, a sprawling complex of more than 3,000 structures. The ruins of Ceibal, Aguateca, and Yaxha make this the heartland of the Maya, and themost extravagant and significant site of its kind the world.
Explore beneath the surface to uncover ruins shrouded by dense forest in Peten, which contain 800 species of trees, 57 species of reptiles, and 500 species of birds. It’s here you can walk in the footsteps of the Mayan emperors. Spend two nights at the Camino Real Tikal before flying back to Guatemala City for your last night
