When you arrive from your flight our local guide will be waiting to take you to the Casa Andina Miraflores. You’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore this cosmopolitan capital before flying north to Trujillo the following day. Your base for the next few days is the Libertador Trujillo. From here our guides will help you learn more about the city as well as visiting some of the best pre-Inca sites in the nearby desert. Visit the pyramids of the Sun and Moon, built from millions of adobe bricks this is the largest pre-Columbian structure in South America. Continue to Huaca Dragon to visit the restored temple. You’ll have the opportunity to visit Huanchaco known for its Caballitos de Totora, boats made of bundles of reed still used today. No trip to the region would be complete without a visit to Chan-Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimu Empire.

Next stop is Chiclayo further down the coast where you will stay at the Gran Hotel Chiclayo. Here you will take a walking excursion of the city and the colourful market. You can find all manner of things here from woven hat and baskets to potions used to restore your health. The following day you will take a private guided excursion to Sipan and the Royal Tomb. The tombs belonging to the Lord of Sipan was only discovered in 1987 at which point it was immediately ranked as one of the world’s most important archaeological sites. You will also visit the adobe pyramid temples of Tucume and the Royal Tomb museum where the remains of the Lord of Sipan as well as 800 gold and copper artifacts can be viewed.

Chachapoyas

Cross the mountainous country to the town of Chachapoyas and check into the Casa Andina. Over the course of the next few days you visit visit a number of different sites. Hike through dense rainforest to Gotka falls, considered the third highest waterfall (771 metres) in the world, where you can swim at the base. Visit the Quiocta Caverns and the Karajia Sarcophagi. You will also explore the impressive fortress of Kuelap – the city of the Cloud Warriors. This mysterious hill top site was inhabited from 1000–1400 AD; shrouded by misty cloud forest it has captured the attention of archeologist’s and adventurous travellers in recent years. You’ll transfer back to Chiclayo on the last day for your flight back to Lima and onward flight home
