Ecuador is one of the best places to visit the Amazon rainforest, easily reached by a scenic 45 minute flight
Motorized canoes will take you to begin a magical journey into the primary forest. For keen birders there are over 500 species to see, for botanists there are thousands.
Venture on dug-out canoe trips through the lakes, smaller tributaries and flooded forest. Enjoy close wildlife encounters with monkeys, sloths, tapirs, macaws, giant otters, not to mention the anacondas and pirañas, though perhaps not too close an encounter with these ones! Our local Amazon guides will be on hand to point out the wildlife and plant species as well as tell you stories of the jungle.
We can even organize trips operated by indigenous (previously head-shrinking) communities such as the Achuar at Kapawi or the Huaorani tribe, where you can learn the wisdom of the shaman its a good idea to stay away from the “enligtening” Ayahuasca though!
Our selected Amazon lodges are all set in unique and beautiful remote locations, run by the local indigenous communities with both bilingual naturalist guides and native Amazon guides who offer an authentic experience.
An alternative way to visit the Amazon is onboard an expedition river boat which cruises the Napo River, stopping en route to meet the local indigenous people, or take jungle hikes or small boat rides through the flooded forest and lagoons.
